I have a Thai registered company and have been engaged in retail business in Bangkok for less than 1 year. However, we are told by other professionals that we are not able to register tax ID and VAT because the rental agreement we signed is not under our company name. What can we do in this case?
Panwa: Kindly note that under the new Thai law, Thai companies do not need to register for Tax ID, which the company can instead use the 13-digit company registration number (as stated on the affidavit) as the company’s Tax ID number, but if in case your company need to register VAT, the rental agreement must be issued under the company name, not under director’s name. Anyway, for this matter, kindly note that we could assist for VAT registration, but you must discuss with the address owner first if he/she allows that your company to register VAT or not, if in case the owner agrees, we could advise further for the next steps for VAT registration, but if he/she does not allow, you must move out from that address and find another company’s address first.
